Getting Employees to Meet Deadlines without Nagging

Duration: 60 minutes

Every employee misses a deadline at some point in their career. In fact, if your staff never misses a single deadline, ask yourself if timelines are set aggressively enough to truly maximize productivity.

But when missed deadlines become the norm or when lame excuses turn into a pattern, something needs to change.

If an employee routinely postpones, procrastinates and fails to meet checkpoints, the productivity and morale of the whole team is damaged. It could also impact customers and others outside the organization—like relationships with vendors or service providers.

Eventually the manager loses faith in the employee to complete tasks on-time which, in turn, results in upper-level management losing faith in the supervisor.

When facing the possibility of explaining yet another delay to superiors, even the most understanding, flexible manager can slip into badgering mode. In desperation, a manager might ask:

“I don’t understand. Why isn’t it done yet?”
“Why did you tell me you’d get this project to me two weeks ago?”
“I’ve asked for it several times now, why do I still not have it?”

These type of questions usually don’t yield helpful answers or insight into the real issues.

To effectively pull an employee, or an entire team, out of a vicious cycle of missed deadlines, disappointed collogues, and declining respect, you need a game plan to shake up the status quo. This webinar will show you how.

      LEARNING OBJECTIVES

During this session, managers will learn how to:

      • Get past lame excuses and uncover the real reasons an employee can’t meet deadlines—reasons an employee may not even be aware of themselves
      • Change how projects and tasks are structured to proactively help employees meet deadlines from the beginning
      • Help an employee repair relationships destroyed by missed deadlines
      • End the nagging by asking questions that help employees take ownership of their work, like:
“What are your plans for this project between now and next Monday?”
